Holly Blue, Celastrina argiolus, ( Lycaenidae ),

 

The only blue butterfly likely to be seen in trees in Britain.

If differs from most other blues in its silvery blue underside with small black dots and no orange.

The upperside is shiny blue, with narrow black margins in the male and much broader ones in the female.

 

Flies March - October in scrubby and wooded habitats, including park and gardens,

Food - Holly, dogwood, gorse and many other shrubs in spring, but usually ivy in autumn.

Wingspan - 3cm,

Status - Generally common and widespread,....
