The man who trained Afterlife. Micheal Van Keller was once a prominent member within the Harvest City elite, the owner of the Harvest Gazette. In his free time, he boxed and did karate. He was a respected man within Harvest, but he had many enemies. Van Keller had angered many people within the underworld by running personal smear campaigns against crime families and criminal leaders in his weekly opinion column in the Gazette. Hits were placed on him almost every month, but he somehow evaded them. Eventually, after learning of Kenneth Masters’ existence, he used his connections to ensure that Masters’ wouldn’t fall into the hands of Mr. Monster. Masters faked his own death, and Van Keller followed after him. His opinion columns didn’t always speak of crime within the city; It also spoke of heroes throughout the world, his favorite the Crimson Cloak. Taking inspiration from the Cloak, Van Keller used his new free time to become the Crimson Hood, staking out “Afterlife” and training him in everything he knew. Afterlife even taught him a few things. Crimson Hood was Afterlife’s father figure, and the boy joined him in his war against the Harvest underworld. Crimson Hood and Afterlife struck fear into the criminals of the city, all but one; Mr. Monster. Mr. Monster himself executed Crimson Hood in front of his criminal syndicate, as well as Afterlife. Afterlife escaped that day, but he was scarred.
Afterlife vanished from the underworld a few years later, and a new Crimson Hood revealed himself. A Crimson Hood named Kenneth Masters.
