Chicago & Northwestern experimented with acquiring, rebuilding and/or repowering secondhand SD45s during its mid-1980's power shortage. One such unit was outfitted with a Caterpillar engine, an effort that I don't believe was repeated again. Here we see said engine, "SDCAT" #6000, a former Conrail unit (and likely PC/PRR).
