Free Burma (Day 122/123 alternate)
I was previously not aware that it was an official awareness day for Burma the 29th, otherwise my 365 pic might have been different. The theme, as one might guess, is a red one. Though Burma may have been cut off from the internet due to their militant government trying to cover up any killings of peaceful protesters and torture pictures from leaking out, there are quite a few people online speaking out for them. I know I have said this before, but again, when freedom of speech is subdued, art forms become the fall back for that expression. You can read about what is going on in Burma here.
The picture was made as a last minute thing, so pardon the lack of creativity. This is merely more about awareness.
Here are a few reputable links to follow up on:
United States:
Find and contact your United States Senators here
Email President Bush and the UN through Amnesty International
United Kingdom:
Email your Foreign Minister through Amnesty International
Australia:
*Note* I'm not sure if there is an email page for Australian representatives but there is a comment and awareness page.
Contact Amnesty International in Australia here
More information for anyone:
There are some other links from other commenters on this page worth viewing as well. Sorry for all the countries I missed, I went with locations where I think the majority of people on flickr might be located, but using a Google search with the keywords "Amnesty International", "your country", and "Burma", you may be able to find something similar. Thanks.
