Suzanne’s Day Off
Tuesday morning…. I keep looking out the window thinking “What a beautiful day!” The day is forecast to be sunny in the low 80’s with low humidity. All I can think of is “girlcation” as my friend Paula calls it. I usually go out after work on Tuesdays, but today I am being drawn to do a “Ferris Bueller”. Finally at noon I give in and decide to have fun.
I head to the Tiffany Club and get changed all the while thinking “What shall I do today?” At 1:30 I am out the door and decide to head into Boston. I live only about 10 miles north of Boston but seldom spend time there. I decided to have a late lunch at the “Tavern on the Water” in Charlestown. I have no problem finding a spot for my red Z3 and have a pleasant lunch outside overlooking Boston Harbor. The waitress was very sweet and even took my photo for me.
After lunch I walked along the waterfront to the “Old Ironsides” park. I have not been there in many years. The USS Constitution is truly an impressive sight. There was a navy ship in the dry dock next to the Constitution. I took a few photos and had a few kind tourists take my photo.
From there I headed to Bunker Hill. I am ashamed to admit, I have never been to this monument. It is so impressive. It certainly compare with the Washington Monument. If it was not so warm I might have considered climbing the stairs to the top. At the base of the monument is a bronze marker for the Freedom Trail. I pondered for a moment that I have also never walked the Freedom Trail. I also pondered how fortunate I am to live in the United States in a time when I am free to be out as Suzanne. I took a few photos there.
Then I decided to head to the Boston Public Gardens. I was fortunate once again to find a parking space near the park. I walked all around the gardens and once again I found numerous kind tourists happy to take a photo for me. I listened to several musicians playing in the gardens and gave them each a dollar. It is funny, Suzanne is much more generous than Chet. It is so nice to have the musicians smile and say “Thank you Ma’am”. I stopped to watch the children playing on the bronze duck and duckling statues from the book “Make Way For Ducklings”. I met a young Japanese woman who volunteered to take my photo and I took several photos for her. The gardens are so pretty with such a wide variety of unusual trees. It is so cool to see the swan boats paddling around the pond.
Boston is a wonderful city with so much to see and do. I will plan to relax and spend more time there especially when we are having such glorious weather.
Later I headed to Rowley to the Agawam Diner for pie and coffee. I had a nice chat with Karen, the cute young waitress, and headed back to the Northshore Mall. I ended up buying new sandals at the Nordstrom Rack and later had a makeup artist at Nordstroms redo my eye makeup.
I finally had to put Suzanne away for another week. It was a fun day that I will remember for some time to come.
