Timber-getters (red) gold.
Taken at Casurina Falls, Dorrigo N. P. NSW.
Sunshine lights up the colour of this tree on a recent bush walk in Dorrigo N.P. The forests of this region were once a vital part of the early colonial economy, and the most prized of all the trees available were the gigantic Red Cedars. This beautiful, scented wood was very valuable and highly sought after. And still is even today.
Walking through these forests today still reveals countless ancient stumps - covered now with fungi, moss and vines.
Fortunately many smaller less valuable red cedars were left, so now over a hundred and fifty years later, these are just beginning to mature - like the one illustrated here.
