Concentration

by patrickfoley2

The central idea of my concentration was to explore and capture the intricate shapes and details of plant life through macro photography through the use of pattern, emphasis, and unity.

I demonstrated my conceptual idea by attempting different ways of approaching my photos by using varying camera angles, different lighting techniques (1, 3,10), and eventually greater levels of digital manipulation (4, 9,12). I began by focusing on easier principles like movement (1,2,3), and then gradually moved into emphasis, contrast and eventually pattern to create more bold and interesting takes on the shapes, figures, and colors of the plants. The exploration resulted in an effective and progressive succession of photos that began with a focus of movement. As the exploration continued, the focus was then shifted towards emphasis and pattern. In the end, I feel like they came together nicely to create an interesting album exploring multiple aspects of plants including color and shape.
