20 years old Sumitra, works in her own beauty parlor in Dungri. Sumitra has trained at the local YIC center gaining skills and expertise, which enabled her to venture out in this profession. UNICEF supported establishment of Youth Information Centers in three districts of Gujarat (Surat, Valsad and Vadodara) in order to engage youth and train them to disseminate correct information on HIV/AIDS and other health issues. The YIC members are also encouraged to design and implement innovative activities to promote issues for the overall development of the community. The link worker supervises the activities undertaken by these YIC members. In most cases, the YIC.
members have redefined their roles according to the changing needs of.
the communities. While in some cases the members have started working.
