Greenbrae's Fishery, 3 March 2024 DSC_1317-2

One of the streams on the Greenbrae's Fishery on the River Foyle. This stream is immediately below the stream below Lifford Bridge and extends down past Lifford Celtic's football pitch. This is tidal water so the conditions may not always be ideal for salmon fishing. Possibly, better for spinning or bubble and fly than fly fishing because when the river is low there's not much pull in the river.

Anglers should be aware that the Loughts Agency operate a salmon fishing permit for this stretch of water. Typical permits are for 7 hours from 8am to 3pm and another from 4pm to midnight. Be aware this streach of river is tidal, so check the tide time before booking a permit or travelling. SLAA have had access to this part of the river for many years, from the “Point of the Finn” right down to the upstream point of Corkan Island (Island More). If you're a member of SLAA and registered to fish the Greenbrae's a permit will be issued free of charge. If your not a member, please check with the local angling shops (Bridge Gun & Tackle, Strabane) to establish if a permit is required prior to fishing.

The River Foyle (& Finn) are both catch and release rivers throughout the season, therefore a single barbless hook with a gape of 12mm or less is required. Where these restrictions apply the use of earthworms as bait, is prohibited.

Fishing is available from both banks. Parking is available at the laybye on the right-hand side of the A38 road, just before crossing Lifford Bridge, if traveling from Strabane.
