From Breen GNR Railway Bridge to The Cognac, 2 Nov 2023 DSC_0893-2

The Cognac

This name derives from the Gaelic word (An Cúngach) meaning narrow river pass.

The Cognac is situated below Victoria Bridge and just above the "Breen GNR Railway Bridge", an old disused railway bridge. The river banks here are fairly clear, the main access point is through the gates next to the factory, with a short walk downstream along the old railway line.

This is a deep running pool, which is good for most types of fishing. If you want a quiet days fishing, this is the place to go.

This stretch of the river is controlled by Sion Mills Angling Club (SMAC).

NOTE: Giant Hogweed is known to grow in this area, please be warned that it may cause serious damage to your skin / eyes. Avoid all contact with the plant, do not attempt to cut it down or touch it.
