Breen Streams, Polly's Bigh from Breen GNR Railway Bridge, 2 Nov 2023 DSC_0898-2

Polly's Bigh

This stretch was named after an old fisherman who lived beside it on the East bank in the early 1900's. Bigh is taken from the Gaelic word meaning "Fast Flowing Waters".

Polly's Bigh provides easy wading from both banks for fly fishing. It is a very popular section of the river when the Grilse are running, for good reason. It holds some large salmon during the middle of the season, June to July.

Access to this stretch is from either bank and is fairly good, the usual solution is to park at Paddy's Streams and walk upstream along the river bank crossing the old disused Breen GNR Railway Bridge. The more adventurous amongst us, wade across at Paddy's Stream.

This stretch of the river is managhed by Sion Mills Angling Club (SMAC).
