The Bigh Stream, River Mourne, Victoria Bridge, 2 Nov 2023 DSC_0834-2

The Bigh

The word Bigh is taken from the Gaelic word meaning "Fast Flowing Waters".

This is a very popular spot for experienced fly fishermen. A good number of large salmon are caught in this stretch every year. Wading is best on the east bank (far bank), following the curve of the river bank.

Access to this stretch is is fairly good from either bank, the best solution is to park at Paddy's Streams and walk upstream along the river bank and across the old disused Breen GNR Railway Bridge. You can also park at the side of the laneway leading to Camus Church. However, if parking here, please do not obstruct access or egress.

This stretch of river is managed by Sion Mills Angling Club (SMAC).
