There were some interesting methods used to foil detection, such as trapping cooking smoke and piping it to another location, to be released slowly in the morning fog. Air intakes were disquised as anthills. Strange to see a festive atmosphere where so much misery occurred on both sides. A few westerners really got into it, buying VC type duds and dressing the part. I believe one French girl might have converted to communism during the tour, flitting about in her new costume.
