Jackdaw " Hawking Dragonflies " -8914
On May 22th I made my plans to photograph Hobbys on my favourite patch... the wind was right, and the light should be right if the cloud cover did not materialise !
Has I got nearer to the hide my old eyes spotted numerous dark birds flying and swooping through the air..... Hobbies I thought ... what an afternoon this going to be !!!
On gaining a better focus distance the Hobbies had transformed into Jackdaws... several dozen Jackdaws throwing themselves across the sky chasing after the Dragonflies caught in the updraft .
The shots shown here are of separate Jackdaws flying roughly 30 minutes apart .
A friend who witnessed this agreed they could well have copied the Hobby's technic, and they were proving very good at it !
The downside to this we only saw 2 Hobbys pass over head at considerable height :-(((
Is this new behaviour or have any of you seen it before ???
I would love to hear from you if you have :-))
Best regards ... Martin
