1967. The Dorena crew collected scion from the tops of 200+ foot ponderosa pine trees from this helicopter fitted with a collection device designed by John Wear (3rd from left) and Jerry Barnes for grafting the same day. Graft survival was good.

2018 note from Kim Bates: "The 4th person from the left looks like Ron Myers. He was the seed-plant manager from before 1980 to approximately ~1990+/-"

Dorena Genetic Resource Center (DGRC) is the USDA Forest Service's regional service center for genetics in the Pacific Northwest Region. Dorena houses disease resistance breeding programs for five-needled pines and Port-Orford-cedar, a native plant development program, and the National Tree Climbing Program.
