Detecting forest insect and disease outbreaks within the palaeoecological record

 

Goal: The principle aim of the project is to calibrate insect outbreaks, notably Dendroctonus, within the pollen and macrofossil record obtained from lake sediments across Oregon and Washington State, U.S.A, utilising the novel approach of environmental DNA (eDNA) to identify beetle presence.

 

Methods: Geographic Information Systems, Palynology, Tephra, Dendrochronology, Ancient DNA, Pollen, Environmental DNA, Palaeoecology
