World Elephant Day
Very much the baritones of the bush, one of my favourite sounds in nature is the low grumble of an elephant as it uses its trunk to break through branches, munching on the most palatable leaves. These are the famous old bulls of the Ngorongoro crater where trees are relatively scarce at this low elevation, but the grasses are more favoured among older elephants.
Despite being a widely revered creature, elephants are hugely vulnerable to poaching, habitat fragmentation and global warming. Let's do what we can to protect this iconic keystone species.
