Portrait photography has always been one of my favorites, and I never thought I would really explore that in low light until I saw the NY Times article on "These Dreamlike Portraits Explore L.G.B.T.Q. Identity in India." Low light portraits can help emphasize and show drama in an image.
In my album, you'll see two different models where I show two different emotions. The portraits were taken using only a candle ( a significant prop near the tub) and a distant dim shower light.
I definitely felt more capable than ever before on taking on a portrait in low light because I understood my camera and how I could use the settings to give me the results I needed. I also realized the importance a photographer has in composing a photo in order for viewers to get the idea. Bubbles were used to be that cloud and blur moment at the front that I used to help frame and hide part of her, something to add mystery to this intimate moment. The mirror behind her, the white tile, the towel bar in the reflection would have all been distracting were this to not be a low light photo; but here, all that is unnecessary is taken away and only what is needed to be seen is illuminated.
