PMG 1913 Truck Leyland 'C-186' *served in WW1 Overseas 1916 Returned PMG 1919

The PMG purchased several Leyland trucks in 1913. When WW1 broke out these PMG vehicles were seconded to serve overseas as Troop Carriers in the conflict zones The seconded PMG Leyland's were returned to the PMG after WW1 had ended and in fact remand in PMG Service until the late 1940s.

'C-186' was recorded, to have serve on the Western Front.

In 1943 an English man who had migrated to Australia in the 1920s and had applied for a position as a Driver with the PMG. At the interview, he was being shown examples of PMG Vehicles that he would drive, when he walked up to and around the Leyland ('C-186') serial times and then patted it affectionally, It was the "old truck" that he had driven (when in the British Army) in France during WW1. There was no doubt about it as he pointed out the shrapnel damaged to the Radiator and other unsighted areas of damaged that had occurred when he and the truck was caught in a German Artillery Barrage. __ "Postal Note" PMG Staff magazine dated September 1945. and Yes he was successful in gaining the position. It is reported that most heavy vehicles that were seconded to the British Forces on their return to the PMG were not repainted red and remained in WW1 livery for remainder of their service time..
