Principles of design that are covered - The texture of the shoe is shown by used of lighting, high contrast, high aperture (makes photo sharp), and lots of shadow. The detail in this photo is what makes this photo my favorite.

Technical considerations - The exposure is very low. The photo is focused on the detail of the shoe. The lighting was meant to provide a lot of shadow in this photo and block (make everything dark except the shoe) out everything except the shoe.
