Swap And Go

After walking back off the pedestrian bridge from Mexico it was mid day high sun and absolutely miserable with the temperature about 110 degrees. I went and cooled off back at the Airbnb for a bit then headed back out. Conditions were far from favorable for photography but I didn't have much else to do so made the best of it as I waited for the evening and some hopefully better light.

CPKC de Mexico brought this big unidentified mixed freight over the Rio Grande from Nuevo Laredo behind CP 8653 and UP 7557 and handed it off to the Union Pacific which recrewed and took it right north out of town toward Port Laredo, and the following day this power set would depart as train MLDDI 29 (manifest Port Laredo to Dallas). It can be challenging to tell the players here and twice I saw trains come north across the river with CP power only to hang a left onto UP rails instead of staying to the right on home territory.

Amidst the dust and haze they are slowly snaking off the bridge and through the US Customs and Border Patrol's VACIS scanner as they approach the UP's yard office housed in the former Missouri Pacific passenger station built in 1913 by MoPac predecessor International and Great Northern Railway.
