Branch Line Savior
CSXT local L004 out of Framingham has arrived af their destination here at about MP QBU 6.2 on CSXT's Fitchburg Secondary, a former New Haven (originally Old Colony Railroad) route. They dropped their train of 18 empty gons on the branchline main and have now dropped down the hill into the Win Waste facility and are gathering up 18 loads from the three stub ended tracks.
This customer has breathed new life into the north end of this historic route and now trains run three days a week always with a pair of GP40-2s. And word is they are negotiating with CSXT to up service to 5 days a week which would be a remarkable turnaround for a line many had feared was on borrowed time!
