Tiptoeing Thru ORMS
New England was drenched with heavy rainfall and temps in the 50s coming only two days after the first substantial snow of the season which meant localized flooding in low lying areas all over and the railroads were not spared. Amtrak's Northeast Corridor was completely shut down in the typical low spot around ORMS interlocking just railraod east of Providence Station affecting the MBTA's morning rush as well as all of their own service. As the water began to subside Main 1 in the center of the RofW was naturally the first to emerge while Main 2 and freight only Track 7 remained submerged. With engineering department folks on site assessing the scene and monitoring conditions all traffic between LAWN and ORMS was given a Form D through the work zone and funelled down that track in both directions initially at only 5 MPH.
Here is 45 minute late outbound Keolis/MBTA train 807 tiptoeing thru ORMS at MP 186 with F40PH-3C 1065 leading a 5 car trainset. Track 7 used by the Providence and Worcester freights is the one behind them and being the lowest it still is mostly underwater and it seemed likely that PR-3 would not be making it down to the Harbor for at least a day.
