150W Curling Through Town
An 86 car loaded QAP gravel train (150W) coils south on the Alaska Railroad mainline passing through downtown Anchorage at MP 114. The train occupies the main while in the foreground is the ARR's south yard lead while on the other side of the main can be see passenger depot tracks 1 and 2. The ARR's historic downtown depot (built 1942 and expanded in 1948) is on the right while beyond the C Street overpass can be seen the roofline of the recently remodeled freight shed and the signal bridge at CP 1147.
Rising dramatically in the background are the 4000+ foot peaks of the Chugach Mountains including the popular summits of Mount Gordon Lyon and Rendezvous Peak and the Arctic Valley ski area.
