Eastbound Number 6

Another photo from the way back archives taken with that first little point and shoot digital camera.

Amtrak train number 6, the eastbound California Zephyr pulls to a stop adjacent the former Rio Grande depot in Grand Junction as the head end crews swap and brief on the platform. Sitting adjacent in the west yard is the BNSF local power consisting of a Heritage II painted GP60M. The yellow brick tile roof building at right is a former D&RGW office building that is surprisingly young, having been built in 1950 in a style and color to match the 1906 Union Station that sits just to the west blocked by the Zephyr. The long empty station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and it and this office are being restored to anchor a redevelopment project in the historic lower downtown area.
