Hello 1137

Here's a quick little shot taken with my phone (that has a surprisingly good camera for spur of the moment thing like this). After much waiting and anticipation MBTA 1137 is finally approved for revenue service and after a couple days running south side was added to a set at BET this morning and is out running. Here she is before dawn ready to go on Layover 1 West in Yard 14 waiting to be taken over to North Station in a few hours.

GP40MC 1137 was originally blt. Aug. 1975 by GMDD as a GP40-2LW CN 9607 and rebuilt ny Alstom in 1997. In 2021-2022 it was rebuilt again by MassDOT at their facility in Rochester and was released for service in this blue scheme identical to sister 1136 excepting the addition of small 'South Coast Rail' lettering on the hood beneath the MassDOT logos. More importantly though, the air brake system was rebuilt back to a 26-L system with a 30-CDW control stand meaning this locomotive can be used for work train service with freight equipment with needed. Upgraded with traction. interlock and with ATC pick up bars on both ends as well as switching steps and ditch lights it is truly a bi-directional and multi purpose machine. Long overdue, let's just hope it works!
