Worcester Delight
Another from earlier in the year of this treat.
Some 43 years after rolling off the erecting floor at LaGrange CSXT still places enough faith in this EMD veteran to call her to lead their hottest train over one of the east's toughest mountain railroads. For reasons unknown daily Syracuse to Worcester hotshot intermodal train I022 was capped with SD40-2 8006 (blt. Mar. 1979 for the Louisville and Nashville with the same number and delivered in Family Lines livery) at Selkirk after being stolen from the local pool.
Alas I couldn't make anywhere out on the line for a shot once I heard but did capture her arriving and spotting up her train at their destination in the Worcester intermodal yard. She sure looked right at home with the two big GEVOs (ES44AC-Hs 768 blt. Dec. 2007 and 3164 blt. Dec. 2013) as they drift back light to tie up after spotting up two tracks of hot UPS loads and other containers for unloading here at the busy ramp.
Quite the surprise on the old Boston and Albany and though I wish I could have gotten more I'm happy with these scene despite the in and out clouds. In the background rises the modest skyline of New England's second largest city and sharp eyes will note the flags flying atop with rebuilt towers on the splendidly restored Worcester Union station that was originally constructed in 1912 to serve trains of the New Haven and Boston and Maine along with those of its builder the B&A.
