Dumping Coal

Another oldie from back when coal still ran and export business was growing.

On a cold grey afternoon at the head of Resurrection Bay the Seward extra board crew is in the process of finishing up dumping 70 cars of coal at Seward as the 6 SD70MACs are just about to duck into the dump shack. Beneath the train 12 conveyers send the coal back up to ground level and through a series of connecting conveyers leading to the stacker/reclaimer which can be seen just to the left of the lead unit. The Kenai Mountains rise dramatically around Resurrection Bay here at the south end of the ARR at MP 3.4. Once the last car is empty they will double up the train and air test it for the 184N road crew to take back to Anchorage once they come off rest.
