Wild And Wonderful...Western Mass!

Daily West Springfield to Selkirk manifest freight Q424 is dug into the steepest part of the grade near about MP 129.5 on CSXT's Berkshire Sub. The monstrous drag set up 2x1 DPU was screaming as it marched slowly up track 1 at about 2 mph defying gravity on the 1.65% slope of the former Boston and Albany Railroad, the world's longest and highest railroad when opened for business in 1841 as the Western Railroad of Massachusetts.

After a few frigid nights the icicles have grown long, but now that the temp has climbed above freezing the melt is raining off the tendrils of ice in a dramatic show. No matter the season, mother nature always serves to impress in the wilds of Western Mass!
