Backing Down The Bennington

Vermont Railway GP38-2 201 (built new for the fledging VTR in Dec. 1972) and SD70M-2 432 have arrived in town from Rutland with train RDHJ and are shoving their whole train around the wye past the splendidly restored 1880 Second Empire style Rutland Railway passenger station. They will back a third of a mile down the Bennington Branch and drop all their cars, then come back up here to pull and spot Whitman's Feed before heading light engine seven miles down to Hoosick Junction to lift their cars from the Pan Am Southern interchange. Note the former Rutland freight house at left that survives as well and is still employed by the railroad.
