A typically healthy 125 car Q425 (West Springfield to Selkirk manifest) with three big Gevos in a 2x1 DPU configuration cruising west parallel to US Route 20 along the gentle water level grade following the Westfield River near MP 119.5 on CSXT's Berkshire Subdivision. But in about 7 miles ahead they'll reach Chester and begin the battle up the 1.6% climb for a dozen miles to surmount the Berkshire Hill on this the ex Conrail, Penn Central, New York Central, Boston and Albany, nee Western Railroad opened in 1841 as the world's first true mountain railroad. 180 years later it remains a vital artery of commerce and the only Class 1 mainline into New England and is still as impressive a sight to behold as ever.
