Seligman Sunset

Looking west into the sun at MP 430 on BNSF's Seligman Sub in the town of the same name. This is the famed Transcon, the legendary ex Santa Fe main. Once an important waypoint with a depot and "Harvey House" as well as a small roundhouse and yard, Seligman has lost all its former glory. The passenger station closed in 1954 but remained a terminal and crew change until 1985. In that year the Santa Fe consolidated district's and ever since crews have flown by non stop between Winslow and Needles. The Havasu as it was known would stand until 2008 but succumbed to the wrecker after 113 years that sad year. There is little reason for the railfan to stop in Seligman now, but the name still lingers on the subdivision and the view on the western outskirt of "town" is still as stunning as ever as yet another in the parade of 80 plus trains per day rolls along on the Santa Fe All The Way.
