Mr. Harrop was fortunate to be in Ogden, Utah where he caught two eastbound Union Pacific trains ready to depart Riverdale Yard for the Evanston Subdivision.
UP 8044 is a "Fast Forty" SD40-2, with gearing to allow higher top speeds on the main line, coupled to a mixed merchandise train.
UP 262 is a GP9 model, added to the head end of a manifest train as a point helper. The crew has been cleared to depart through the crossovers from the yard to Main No. 1 at East Riverdale.
Doug caught UP 262 one additional time up in Weber Canyon, not far from the Harrop family home in Mountain Green.
