I've been at this railroad photography habit for 53 years, and have lived in Utah all my life. Not once had I captured a train on Union Pacific's Lund to Cedar City branch until now.
UP dispatches an LUD53 local from the crew base at Milford west on the Caliente Sub to Lund, and timetable west (geographic east) on the Cedar City Subdivision.
I had the better part of a day to catch the local as I was in town to see Shakespeare plays at Southern Utah University. The timing worked as I caught the local between Iron Springs and Cedar City.
The crew stopped their train at mile post 26.3 to make a pick up and a set out at Charlotte Pipe & Foundry, part of a sprawling business park about four miles west of Cedar City. Mission accomplished.
