Utah's Capital City

Doug Harrop Photography • September 1, 1984

A Union Pacific DDA40X leads the WPV west through Grant Tower in Salt Lake City, Utah.

This landscape couldn't be more different today. CF&I's steel fabrication plant is long gone, replaced with high density apartments. The track alignment through Grant Tower was revamped in 2007 to expedite train movements through a new Quiet Zone. The Union Pacific train depot is blocked by the retail and residential buildings of the "Gateway" development.
