A Southern Pacific SD40M-2 leads a well powered intermodal train east along the Sunset Route at Steins, New Mexico.
SP 8695 was built Erie Lackawanna SDP45 No. 3662 by EMD in August 1970. By 1994, it was rebuilt an SD40M-2 by Morrison Knudsen in Boise, Idaho. It was later retired by UP and sold to NRE (National Railway Equipment) and scrapped.
