UP Family Days

Union Pacific held "Family Days" events each year in select cities for the benefit of employees and their families. Modern railroad equipment was placed on display with free train rides for the kiddies, and even balloon rides for hearty souls.

On June 15, 1985, a shiny EMD SD40-2 and GE C30-7 were on display for Family Days at the UP passenger station in Salt Lake City.

By the late 1990s, all of this property was sold off and redeveloped into a retail mall. A luxury hotel now stands where the train is parked and high density housing covers the site of South Yard.
