Birth of a Handi-Hut
When Amtrak refused to renew their lease on space in D&RGW's Provo, Utah train depot, the structure was found to be surplus by the Rio Grande and demolished in January 1987.
Amtrak found itself with no station/facility for passengers to wait for trains. Not even a pay phone. Amtrak arranged to have the D&RGW built for them a "Handi-Hut" transit shelter for California Zephyr passengers.
Only the finest accommodations for Amtrak passengers in Utah's fourth largest city!
