A Well Tuned Quartet

Doug Harrop Photography • June 20, 1980

Doug was a big fan of Utah Railway coal trains. Even when the company began to utilize high horsepower Union Pacific SD40-2s on the Rio Grande main, he was there with his camera.

Union Pacific 3207, 3155, 3485, and 3149 pull a Martin Turn through twin reverse curves below the famous (but difficult to access and photograph) Gilluly Horseshoe, 10 miles west of Soldier Summit.

Utah's iconic fleet of Alco locomotives were still in operation, but only on mine runs and as swing helpers.
