Doctor's Orders
I broke my own personal record along Deer Creek Reservoir on Friday, October 25, 2024. It was a perfect outdoor day, and the four mile hike was a life giving experience. Trackside color in the form of golden hued brush and trees just added to the splendor.
Along the way, I discovered a new vantage point at mile post 8.7, northeast of Wallsburg siding. It offered a nice perspective of the track, built by the US Government for the Denver & Rio Grande Western in 1940, to elevate the track above the new reservoir.
The Lakeside Limited arrived right on time, with veteran Heber Valley engineer Craig Drury at the throttle. Craig is one of the tourist operation's founding fathers, supporting the railroad since its inception the early 1970s.
