Goal Achieved
For 40+ years, I've wanted to photograph a northbound UP train on the old Provo Main between Lakota Junction and Pleasant Grove. Specifically, a morning train at or near the Summer Solstice when the sun shines in the north for optimum lighting. My goal was achieved on Friday, June 16, 2023 when the LUL41 local departed Provo Yard early, and marched up the Provo Industrial Lead by 9:00 a.m. They had a sizable train, too with 18 cars. Pictured, the 41 is crossing Center Street in Orem, Utah. Decades ago, a short set out track stood here named "Vineyard" in the timetable, likely for sugar beet loading. The thistle plants were a welcome addition.
