Barely six months old at the time, 9770 is first in the last group of GP60s ever built, among the last production four-axle "geep". EMD produced 380 GP60 series units between 1985 and 1994, including 294 GP60s, 63 GP60Ms, and 23 GP60Bs. Southern Pacific had the largest roster by far at 195, delivered between 1987 and 1994.
