Cutting out the Swings

A group of Alco locomotives assigned as mid-train 'swing' helpers are cutting free from a Utah Railway coal train at Soldier Summit on Sept. 3, 1978. The nine-unit consist includes the 301, 300, 304, 306, 305, 600, 401, 402, and 403. The swings will return light to Martin Yard while the coal train resumes its journey to interchange with the Union Pacific at Provo.
