Passenger Service GP9

Union Pacific GP9 No. 299 leads the St. John Local across 3rd North Street in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 29, 1977. It was built by EMD for the Union Pacific in Sept. 1954, equipped with a steam generator and an 800 gallon water tank for system wide passenger service. The steam generator was removed in 1972 and a 2400 gallon fuel tank installed. The 299 was retired from the roster in July 1982 and sold for scrap to General Metals in Tacoma, Washington on December 24, 1982. (Info via UtahRails.net)
