My father and I stood trackside discussing . . . would this be the day? We heard through the grapevine that Rio Grande F9A No. 5771's rebuild and repaint were complete. She came out of Spanish Fork Canyon dressed in glossy Aspen Gold and silver Imron paint, drumming to the beat of a freshly rebuilt prime mover. Our baby was back, and taking her first journey from Denver to Salt Lake City on June 30, 1979.
