I spent half year in Saint Petersburg taking photos about the city and its inhabitants. I was interested in three main topics: “Sunbathers” – unemployed people, who try to find happiness with sunbathing, chatting, and feeling the energy of sun and water.
Basically what they do is somehow connected with a feeling which makes people to strive for a better life, happiness of “small” people living in today’s Russia. Above that, Saint Petersburg is really interesting due to the fact that it has always been a marginal city standing on the border of East and West, Russia and Western Europe.
Series „Sunbathers” is really important for me. Important, because it shows a desperate striving of city people for happiness, in order to run away from greyness, and find sunshine.
