Seagull Decomposing near a Shrub

This seagull was found dead in the parking lot by Big Lots and Food Lion near Gold's Gym longleaf in Wilmington on April 10th. This seagull kind of freaked me out at first, then I realized that we just went over carbon cycling and watched some pretty cool circle of life decomposition videos in #ecology class. It looks like the first thing to show signs of decomposition were this guy's eyes. They desiccated and look sunken in. It was tempting to try to find cause of death, but birds carry all kinds of microbes and I do not care to catch whatever killed this guy. I expect the decomposition of the bird to go fairly quickly since the weather in Wilmington is warm now and summers here are generally humid. If this bird fell from the sky in winter in Canada I would expect him to decompose much more slowly. #UNCW #uncweteal #bio366 #Sp2017#image4 #ecology
