Dans la Rome antique, la Naumachie était un bassin dans lequel les spectacles de batailles navales étaient représentés. La Naumachie du Parc Monceau fut construite avec les colonnes de l’ ancienne Rotonde des Valois, édifice commandé par Catherine de Médicis pour accueillir le tombeau d’ Henri II à côté de la basilique de Saint-Denis. Celui-ci ne sera jamais achevé, et même détruit en 1719. Ses colonnes furent donc récupérées pour décorer le Parc !

This one was never completed, and even destroyed in 1719. Its columns were thus recovered to decorate the Park!
