SHAW STYLE

Shaw Mine, just south of Meyersdale, PA on the remnants of the Salisbury Branch, is putting the finishing touches on a Pepco coal train. The mine now employs a Trackmobile to aid in the loading process, but in 2008 the duties were handled by one of the front end loaders on hand. The empty trains are spotted under the tipple by the CSX power and then the cars are moved for loading using a car puller system. Once loaded 3-4 cars are moved northward from the tipple at a time. When the loaders were used they would get the cars moving by pushing on one of the ribs on the car side. This is the beginning of the shove pictured here, once moving the loader would back off and get behind the cars and push them from the rear.
