BETTER DAYS

Dusk has settled in on one of the shorter days of 2006 and the lights have come on at CSX's Cumberland Terminal. At that point in time it seemed unimaginable that the hump would ever go silent. Nearly two dozen trains a day would be classified here back then and this was just a shot of a typical evening. Gone are the CPL's at West Hump, the 86' high cubes lurking above the central bowl tracks and most importantly more than half the carload traffic that used to call here. For now the hump and the tower remain.
